47th Annual Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival

Date: October 10 - 13, 2025
Location: Delta Hotel Winnipeg, 350 St Mary Ave
Gala Performance (October 11, 2025): Manitoba Theatre for Young People, 2 Forks Market Rd
Hungarian Kapisztrán Folk Ensemble is honoured and excited to be hosting this year's 47th Annual Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival in Winnipeg.
The Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival—affectionately known as WCHFF—has been a beloved tradition since 1970. Hosted each year in a different Western Canadian city, the festival brings together Hungarian folk dance groups, musicians, and communities from across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. It is a joyful celebration of our culture through traditional music, dance, entertainment, and crafts—and an annual homecoming for Hungarian Canadians of all generations.
This year, our theme is “Család” or “Family”—a word that holds deep meaning in Hungarian culture. Whether it’s the shared laughter over homemade gulyás, the stories passed down through generations, or the dances and songs that continue to live through us, family is at the heart of how we preserve and pass on our traditions. We believe that culture lives strongest when it is lived together. This year’s festival is a tribute to the families—big and small, biological or chosen—who nurture and celebrate our Hungarian identity. It’s a time to honour the parents who teach their children folk songs, the grandparents who share stories of the old country, and the communities who come together as one big extended family, continually showing each other love and support rooted in cultural bond.
Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers of all ages can take part in dance, singing, and musician workshops, offering a chance to learn, connect, and grow together through the arts that define our heritage. The weekend culminates in a vibrant gala performance, where dance groups showcase the beauty of Hungarian folk dance on stage. The celebration never ends, with our evening táncház—traditional dance house—bringing everyone from first-timers to seasoned dancers together to join in the joy of live music, dance, and laughter.
This Thanksgiving, let's celebrate not only our traditions, but the people who keep them alive—our families.
Greetings from Dignitaries
